I'm finally getting around to posting a pic of my grandson. He was/is a big boy and already ornery! He doesn't like his diaper changed or having his clothes changed! It's going to be interesting to see what that translates into when he gets older. It's so cool being a grandmother.

This last pic is my son holding his son. It just about makes me cry every time I see it. This, to me, is the epitome of love.

I have 3 sons, and my oldest son and his wife are expecting- my first grandchild- sometime around Christmas. We know it's a boy. I am soooooo excited!!

Sharing some pics of my Optimara violets. I'm getting back to letting my thumb turn green again. My house had such wide eaves that I wasn't able to grow many flowers other than in my kitchen window. Now I have oodles of light and I'm excited to get back into flowers. I'm going to go slow and add a little at a time but it's hard to wait with so many gorgeous flowers out there.

On April 26th my husky had four beautiful puppies. I will post a pic soon- my camera has been acting up. I have a black and white female Siberian Husky and a silver and white Siberian Husky male parents. They had two girls and two boys. The one that looks exactly like the mother is a male and the one that looks exactly like the dad is a female! Funny how that works out. The other two are a silver gray and one is a cream and white, she is going to be the hardest to let go. I was hoping for a solid white one and the cream one will turn a very soft silver- almost white. I can't keep one but it is sooooo very tempting. I *love* puppies but they are sure a lot of work . . . and they eventually grow into adults! I will certainly enjoy them (and spoil them rotten) for as long as I can.

Thank you Diane for steering us to the Rainbow test site. I had a little trouble getting it to copy the rainbow itself. Maybe the computer has never seen a rainbow like this before!! LOL! I too *love* rainbows. They have served as a sign of affirmation, strength, and joy many times in my life.

Hemp Jewelry

I'm learning how to make jewelry. Nothing grand mind you. I've starting out by learning to make a hemp choker using a square knot. The book I'm using is called "Making Beautiful Hemp and Bead Jewelry" by Mickey Baskett and this is the 1st project in the book. The hemp is a variegated tan color and I think it makes it look dirty so it'll probably be delegated to being a core thread for future projects. (This really makes the fingers sore! . . . and very time consuming also, well starting out for me anyway.)

I have come to the conclusion that a person could spend 24 hours of the day on the computer. Even though it's summer out and my flowers are blooming gorgeously, almost weed free and still I find myself grabbing a moment here a moment there and it's like there's a magnet, an ass magnet in my computer chair that draws me right back in. One place that draws me like a bee to honey is Ebay. I go there to LOOK and find myself buying things I don't need, have not needed before and probably won't ever need. I have spent one too many rainy days on this computer, in Ebay and I was appalled when I came to myself and saw the amount of items I had bid on. It was like a trance, this zone I went into and couldn't hardly pull myself back out. I haven't spent any amount of money for awhile except on necessities, you know the ones, books, chocolate, chocolate brownie ice-cream. Those are staples. So I find myself having spent beau coup bucks on stuff I don't need. Maybe it was the depredation of so many months of not spending, I freakin' exploded! I am even now wondering what I might be missing. I'm on a jewelry kick now so I've been looking for reasonably priced items to make jewelry. Of course I had to buy a few to get ideas percolating and I found myself over at Amazon, looking at books to make jewelry with hemp, threads, and wire. I'm an aging hippie and I tell you what, I have ordered enough stuff to make, geez, I don't know, a hundred necklaces and bracelets maybe? I also have my hand dyed silk thread to use, mustn't forget that and of course beading thread.

When you sit down to the computer you have to have a cuppa something, coffee, iced tea, oh, btw, those are also staples. After all that liquid I'm having a race to see how long I can hold it, because I can't tear myself away from the computer and thus several trips have been at a run! Like a little kid I am!! I'm 55 years old, if I haven't grown up by now I seriously doubt it's gonna happen! LOL!

I do have some new thread to show you and a tiny little tatted thing of two butterflies joined by a chain, using my very first hdt. So, I'm off to the bank to see if I can scrounge up enough money to cover my bids. I'm already suffering withdrawal symptoms from Ebay! I might end up posting some of my jewelry (listen to me, like I've already made it, let alone know HOW to make it) here on my blog to get input from you, yeahs and nays would be welcomed.

to all those who celebrate it today. I am blessed to have a mother who grows more precious to me every day. I also have three son's who are the light of my life. My oldest son brought me a beautiful arrangement of flowers for outside, my middle son text me "Happy Mother's Day," to which I text back "thank you sweetie." His reply to me was, "No, thank you!" My youngest son just went and bought filet mignon and is preparing our supper tonight for us both. Life is good!!

Beginner's Tatting Classes

I finally, FINALLY remembered the tatting class that started again last night. I met a group of nice ladies and I'm looking forward to moving on and learning new things. Might use some of my new thread to see if I'm going to like it.
It seems to be raining here every other day so I'm trying to take advantage of the dry days to work outside. I love this cooler weather, it's so much more pleasant to work in, after it gets hot out I'm only outside when I absolutely have to be! Which is still plenty with two huskies to keep up with. Also have to go water the plants of an evening so I guess I'm out there more than I realize. I have this awful problem with the heat, I melt away and my energy level goes straight down the tubes, I'm so miserable I can hardly stand it. Give me spring, fall, and winter, but the heat lovers out there can sure have summer!! I'm just the opposite of most folks, there's no way I want to winter in Florida but I'd sure like to summer in Alaska!! LOL!

I decided to try my hand at hand dying silk thread. It took a lot of searching to find the quality of silk that I wanted to use. This is reeled silk, and it's probably close to a size 10 cordonnet, this silk is also 6 ply. So far I've managed 2 small skeins. These haven't been rinsed yet so they are still really vibrant. I redyed the red in both skeins to try and retain as much color as I can.

They're rinsed now and I'm waiting for them to dry to take new pics. I tangled them up pretty badly, especially that last one so I'm hoping when they dry I can unmangle them! I think the white between the red and blue is going to be pink! Oops!

I found out this afternoon (Sat. the 28Th of March) that there is to be set aside an hour, 8:30 P.M. this very day, where everyone on the earth are asked to turn off their lights for just one hour (yes, that includes computers and TVs!) Sit outside and look at the stars, no wait, it's not quite dark enough here for star gazing. Spend time with your family and friends and discuss other ways that we can make a difference in this world-wide problem of global warming. I think it will be interesting to see how many people participate, and how much is saved by just one hour of blackout. I don't think there is a way to measure this for the whole world, but it will knock off some of your own electric bill. Maybe make it a weekly family project, to come up with different ways to increase energy efficiency while we spend one hour of our time a week NOT "burning the midnight oil."

I hope that everyone has a safe holiday and I wish kindness, prosperity, and friendship be your lot for the coming new year. God Bless you all, especially for being supportive in helping me learn to tat. I don't feel that I'll ever know all there is to know and you'd think something as simple as a ring and a chain would be a snap. Those rings and chains connect more than just thread in this tatting community and I hope to get to know you all better in the coming year.

My sister and I always had our own way of signing off. I always ended my letters (to everyone) with God Bless! She signed with Godspeed. Now that she is no longer with us I have gotten in the habit of signing God Bless and Godspeed in memory of a woman who was/is/forever my best friend. This time of year I get a bit quiet because I miss her so much. She has been gone for 5 years now and one would think it would get to be easier. It doesn't. So, I'll get a bit more active again in a week or so, I do need to post some pics and get busy doing more tatting. I about have a small Christmas tree done, so I'll be posting soon- and God Bless and Godspeed.

I've been trying to do a snowflake pattern by Laura B. and so far mine looks nothing like hers! I tried making it several times then went on to something else. Laura encouraged me to try again and this is what I made. The first pic in blue is using size 10 thread. Not good. I thought that maybe a smaller thread would work so I went down to size 20. When I got to the next to the last ring and chain I saw it wasn't going to lay flat even with the smaller thread so I left off the last ring and chain.

The bottom pic is the snowflake after adding second row to it. I'm waiting for advice from Laura before continuing on.

Autumn Colors

This pattern came from same old booklet, Tatting Book no. 183. It was supposed to be a flower spray but I made an abbreviated version of the pattern and kind of winged it through the stem part. The thread is awful thread to work with. It's Clea 9258. I love the colors but it's a 2 ply thread and when I was tightening the stitches on another piece I was making, the thread broke on me (first pic. I don't seem to be able to remember to post the pics in the opposite order so that they're in the right order!).

I've been tatting away but I haven't posted for awhile so I thought I'd try to get caught up. This is something that I made from this old pattern book. I'm showing 2 pics of it because it might be hard to see against the book, which is an old Clark's booklet no. 183. I think this might be the best thing I've made so far! LOL! I've seen this pattern a lot actually, this is a simple little pattern that can be used alone, or made into an edging. I used Flora thread but I seem to have misplaced the thread. Anyway, it's size 20 thread. I'm still not comfortable using thinner thread yet.

I'd forgot about this little bugger. This is neither red nor purple. It's made from a skein of DNC pearl cotton. Pattern from Workbasket Magazine. If anyone would be interested in having the pattern I could probably scan it and share, if that isn't imposing on any trademarks and such. I've never shared anything before because I've never had anything to share! lol! Everyone else is so generous with their things I'd like to return the favor to anyone interested and if I'm not breaking any rules. So can someone tell me how this works with the Workbasket Magazine? Am I allowed to share the pattern privately?

Edging- red and white using Flora size 10. I used this metal shuttle on this one and kinda liked the way it felt in my hands. But, getting the bobbin to let go of the thread was an absolute bear. Then you pull too much out struggling with it and here comes one of my famous messes! I am so awkward still, feel like an adolescent all over again. Well, maybe not quite that bad. Pattern came from another old Workbasket Magazine. I want to continue making this to put around a collar. Any advice on how to sew it down?

Hello Bloggers. I scorched my hand about a week ago, not bad, just enough to smart. I was picking up a whistling tea kettle with my right hand and when I went to turn the burner off the blasted thing shot boiling water on my left hand. Made tatting a little uncomfortable so I've mainly been looking at patterns the past week and catching up on reading. I'm one of those people who HAVE to read, just have to. Now, it seems like there's a transference of a lot of the time that I was using to read, to tatting! I just HAVE to tat! lol! I'm not complaining believe me, it feels like I was missing something I wasn't even aware I was missing until I started tatting. I have some pics to share of the things I was working on before the scorching incident and last night I started tatting again. I'm just thankful it didn't blister, I evidently got the cold water on it soon enough to halt the process. The little dance that went with it, well it just wasn't pretty!

I have been talking to so many wonderful people about tatting. Thank you all for sharing from the wealth of your knowledge about tatting and all the encouragement that you have given me.

I started tatting this last night from an old, old Workbasket magazine I found, where else? . . . at EBay. I haven't bought but one thing before this but criminey, I do believe it could become an addiction. So many things, so little precious room, and even less money, sigh. Back to tatting, this is a picture of what I'm making, it's a flower appliqué, and I noticed at about the third round that I was doing it wrong but I thought it looked pretty cool anyway, so that's what that is above. I couldn't capture the color, it's Cebelia 210-size 10 thread. I can't believe the contrast with different background and lighting. This is using my cell phone camera so I can't take any far away pics!

Today I received a copy of "Every Woman's Complete Guide to Tatting" edited by Barbara Foster. I read the entire beginning and looked at all of the patterns and pics, I think I'm going to really like this book. I am drawn to square motifs and I saw several that I'd like to try.

I'm off to finish my appliqué!

Ok, snowflake #3. I think I am making the middle picot too big. I was having trouble seeing it after awhile so I tied a pink/red thread around it to keep better track of it. I think the only thing wrong with this one is that I am making all of the picots too big. I'm hoping to get some of the picot gauges from Georgia Seitz soon, hopefully that will help me.

Last night I used a pattern from Rozella F. Linden's book "Easy Tatting," and haven't quite succeeded in mastering it. Here are my first two attempts, I'll have another go at it later today.They're actually in reverse order of when I tatted them. The pink one was tatted first. I didn't understand how to join them all in that one middle picot. I obviously STILL don't understand, lol!

I'm making a shamrock and I copied the pattern into a Microsoft Word doc. I don't remember where I found the pattern or who created the pattern so I've been hesitating to put my progress down. It's a very simple pattern and it's driving me bonkers trying to find where I found it at. I think I might go to the pattern detectives and see if they know it . . .

Although I'm a beginner tatter, I want to learn to make the lovely things that I see all of you making. My Word program is already busting at the seams with all the free patterns offered by generous individuals.
